While designing our trainer and looking for different beacons of inspiration, we stumbled across one of the most inspirational stories you’d come across. Florence Griffith Joyner also known as Flo-jo has left a legacy that will last forever. Flo-Jo, a human like you and I that has to battle through different forms of adversity in order to get to the other side. Her other side would be becoming the fastest woman to have ever stepped foot on earth, setting the world record in the women's 100m and 200m at the Olympics. In most cases before glory there is pain and the pain one goes through in the pursuit of achieving one's goals is what we cherish at Hiple®. Florence grew up in the projects with ten siblings and a single mother. She battled shyness which was seen as aloofness by others, dealt with insecurities, was ridiculed and laughed at amongst her peers for dreaming big. She was doubted by her own coaches for not having the proper techniques. She used it all as fuel and it fueled her to keep working. She remained stoic. A creative that wanted to be everything around the sun used track and field to help express herself. She was fearless and broke the norms of what a typical sprinter should look like. She took pride in being her authentic self in sporting her long custom nails and displaying her unique outfits at her events. Before athleisure there was Flo-Jo, one of the true pioneers. Being herself was her performance strategy, she wasn’t ashamed of who she was and how she felt internally instead she embraced it. Flo once stated, “Dress good to look good. Look good to feel good. And feel good to run fast!” We want you to fill her last sentence with your own reasoning for feeling good (_). Her records in the women's 100m and 200m still stand however, all records are meant to be broken. One day her records will be broken but her story and her legacy will last forever.
